The Authors

 

Dr. Charles Phillips is a Board Certified Emergency Physician who has worked within and studied managed care for the last four years in a variety of settings. He is also a current instructor in Advanced Trauma Life Support. He has a private office in Fresno, California, and is soon to be named the Medical Director of the Sanger Hospital Emergency Department.

He has written four books on paramedic care. Increasingly he is being asked to provide expert opinion and testimony on quality of care issues in various areas of California. He is also the principal expert witness involved in the legal case challenging the $200 million in profits made by managed care in the area of pill splitting.

 

Mr. Ron Panzer is a Licensed Practical Nurse in Michigan. He is the Executive Director of Hospice Patient Alliance and is the author of the book called The Hospice Patients Alliance Family Guide to Hospice Care. He has been an active advocate for patient rights.

 

Ms. Ramona Egan is a patient advocate who has worked with numerous senior advocate groups to make sure that patients have their rights protected as they get quality care. She has also won an award in short story writing. Her job experience included being the executive assistant to the dean of a college. She lives in Fresno, California, and frequently visits her daughter on the East Coast where they compare notes on "managed care" and its problems.
